The Big Gamble Also Starring: Juliet Greco & David Wayne
Not all fun and games on this scene. Check out the pictures as they pull Stephen out of the Ardeche river after an accident where David Wayne had to come to the rescue. Apparently, Stephen lost his balance and slipped into an undercurrent during the filming of the dangerous scene and actually became unconscious for a few seconds until Wayne managed to drag him into quieter waters. The crew looks very concerned as Boyd can thank a guardian angel for saving his life on his birthday in 1960.
the scenes at "The Big Gamble"
During an intimate scene cut was called as the shooting gets interrupted by fans outside the set in Ireland. During the filming of The Big Gamble, director Richard Fleischer discovered that the African natives presented fewer problems than the good citizens of Ireland. Hordes of Irish fans followed the company everywhere. One bug-eyed cyclist rode right through a scene on the harbor quay, and cycled off the dock into the river Liffey. And while shooting during a shower one day, in Dublin, the skies suddenly cleared. In order to complete the scene, special firemen were assigned to hose down the street to maintain a glistening wet appearance within camera range. Employees poured out of the famous Guinness brewery, to watch in wonder. After applauding and spoiling a scene, an Irishman exclaimed: "Sure and those Hollywood folk are an odd lot, to let a little applause disturb them!"
